The Kotte Kingdom
Hidden on a private island, on land once belonging to the great Kotte Kingdom, Aathma is a 9 bedroom family home unlike anywhere else in Colombo. Once an artist's residence, the house sits between Diyawanna Lake and a protected bird sanctuary, where birdsong replaces traffic and every corner tells a story.
Sri Lankan Soul
Aathma means soul and that’s exactly what you’ll find here. The soul of Sri Lanka, shared through its food, nature, art, and people. Less a hotel and more an intimate private estate, it is a place shaped by seasonal home cooking, curated spaces, and generous, heartfelt hospitality.
Mornings begin with the calls of water birds across the lake, the scent of lush tropical greenery, and the quiet waft of temple incense carried on the breeze. It is Colombo at its most peaceful, an unhurried lakeside sanctuary just minutes from the city's pulse.
Every room at Aathma has its own personality. Individually designed with collected art, handcrafted furniture and thoughtful details, each offers its own perspective of the house, the gardens and the lake. Simply choose the one that speaks to you.
A Family Story
Long before our doors opened to the world, Aathma was built as a gathering place for family and lifelong friends. It was a home defined by shared tables, late-night conversations, and generous entertaining.
As our family expanded across borders, so did the character of the house. Our spaces, tables, and hospitality are shaped by an eclectic heritage spanning Sri Lankan, South Indian Tamil, Middle Eastern, and Scottish roots, blended with an abiding love for architecture, travel, and the arts.
Opening our home to guests felt like a natural next chapter.
