Hidden on a private island, on land once belonging to the great Kotte Kingdom, Aathma is a 9 bedroom family home unlike anywhere else in Colombo. Once an artist's residence, the house sits between Diyawanna Lake and a protected bird sanctuary, where birdsong replaces traffic and every corner tells a story.

Aathma means soul—and that's exactly what you'll find here: the soul of Sri Lanka, shared through its food, nature, art and people. Less a hotel, more a home, this is Colombo at its slowest, warmest and most memorable.

A Family Story
Long before Aathma welcomed guests, it welcomed family and friends.
Created as a private home, the house has always been a place where people came together over good food, lively conversation and generous hospitality. As the family grew, so too did the stories within its walls—shaped by a rich blend of Sri Lankan, South Indian Tamil, Middle Eastern and Scottish heritage, and a shared love of travel, design and culture.
Opening our home to guests felt like a natural next chapter.
Today, that same spirit remains at the heart of Aathma. We want every guest to feel less like a visitor and more like a friend, discovering Sri Lanka through the places we love, the meals we share and the stories we're proud to tell.
